Manipal Hospital at Bangalore launched dialysis treatment at home

Former President of India A P J Abdul Kalam urged citizens to lead a healthy life and requested to prevent expensive diseases like kidney ailments. On Thursday, he launched the first mobile dialysis facility in Bangalore. Manipal Hospital at Bangalore launched the mobile dialysis facility which will deliver the dialysis at homes.

The study made by Manipal Hospital reveals that 10% of adult population is affected by end-stage kidney diseases and it has only two options of kidney replacement and dialysis. The dialysis costs about Rs. 2000/- per session and the patient require 4-5 hours dialysis thrice a day.

Kalam suggested the hospital to have preventive care department to teach about the prevention of the diseases and to provide emergency services to rural areas and remote places.

He requested that every health care professional including doctors, nurses and staff to have a quality to invite the patient inside the hospital with a smile face so that his faith in life is reinforced. He quoted an example of health care model at Tamil Nadu where dialysis is offered for Rs. 500 to at least 25 patients daily.

Kalam emphasized that this disease is costly one and we all should try to prevent it by leading a healthy lifestyle. He added that we should also launch a national campaign for kidney problems.
