India stands tenth globally in adolescent HIV with high HIV girls
India is reported to have more than 95,000 adolescents infected with HIV and it stands in the tenth rank globally –said UN report.
The report said that India is having 46,000 girls and 49,000 boys in the age group of 10 to 19 are living with HIV.
South Africa stands first in the list of HIV infected adolescents with its 2,10,000 girls and 82,000 boys. Nigeria and Kenya is placed in second and third place with having infected by the deadly AIDS virus.
The report released on yesterday said that most of the adolescents infected with the virus are in Sub-Saharan Africa and most of them do not know about their status as positive to the virus.
The report added that women are more seen as HIV positive than men worldwide.
“For many young people HIV infection is the result of neglect, exclusion, and violations that occur with the knowledge of families, communities, social and political leaders,” said UNICEF executive director Anthony Lake.
