French police insist motorists to have two breathalyzers by amending traffic rules
French police have recently changed and amended their traffic rules that insist motorists to have two breathalyzers with them without fail. It is applicable for any drivers who travel through France by car. The new system is expected to be introduced from July.
French police had already introduced motorists to have warning triangle or fluorescent safety vest.
The device costs from £1 to £2 and it shows the limits to drivers to know their status of drink-drive limits.
Penalty: 1. 135 euros (£112) if alcohol is found to be between 50mg and 80mg per 100ml of blood.
2. Drivers will lose six out of 12 points on their driving licence.
3. Above 80mg, the driver may have to pay the fine of 4,500 euros (£3,744), he will be sent to prison for two years and his licence will be cancelled.
4. Drivers without carrying readily usable two breathalyzers will be fined with 11 euros.
The motorists are asked to carry two single-use breathalyzers, when one was used already, to use the second one instantly.
However, the French police will have their routine random checking on the road side.
French police have announced a grace period up to November after which time they will start penalizing the motorists under new traffic rules to have two breathalyzers.
