The reluctance of usage of male condoms has been addressed by replacing it by female condoms at India.
This pre-programming assessment indicated much acceptance of the condoms among sex workers and it is stated about five percent of the unprotected sex is being reduced.
The National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) has scaled up the female condom programme in four states- Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and Maharshtra.
The good results made NACO to scale up the programme in another nine states. NACO is providing the female condoms at cheaper rate – Rs.3.50/- per condom and so far it distributed 1.5 million female condoms.
