The later stage IBC shows unique symptoms of breast cancer in the form of breast skin ulcers.
Recurrence of symptoms of breast cancer:
Recurrence of breast cancer is divided in to local, regional and distant. Distant recurrence is the same as advanced or metastatic breast cancer. The breast cancer returned after treatment is called local recurrence. It is very close to the original tumor location. It can often be effectively treated. Regional occurrence may be in the chest wall muscle. Or the lymph nodes located beneath your sternum. Sometimes it may occur in your collarbones and around your neck.
Signs of breast cancer in local recurrence :
a small lump or rash in the excision scar, on or under the skin
Signs of breast cancer in regional recurrence :
Swollen lymph nodes above collar bones or side of neck and swollen lymph node in the same armpit where cancer was previously removed.
New tumor is often misunderstood for recurrence :
A new cancer is diagnosed and treated independently from the original tumor. If a new tumor appears with different pathology, it is not considered a recurrence. It is called as a new primary. It may occur in different area of the breast that was originally affected or it may occur in opposite breast.
