Authorities in Brewster county confirmed on Monday that the human remains found last Friday were those of missing Sul Ross State student, Zuzu Verk.

He told police that she later left his apartment and drove away, but Verk was never seen again and never showed up for an exam she had at Sul Ross State University the next day.

Police also arrested Fabian's friend, Chris Estrada.

Verk's former boyfriend, Robert Fabian, has been under arrest for tampering with or fabricating physical evidence by concealing a human corpse since Saturday.

A cause of death was pending Tuesday for Verk. Neighbors reported hearing the pair arguing that night.

Less than a week after Zuzu Verk disappeared, police offered $7,500 for Verk's safe return or information leading to her.

Fabian remained in custody in Alpine on Tuesday with his bail amount set at $500,000.

"It's a disgrace. And to think that in such a shallow grave, that the animals wouldn't have eventually dug the body out - they weren't thinking".

Reiterated the sheriff: 'Why was she killed?

When investigators did an initial search of Fabian's apartment in the days after Zuzu's disppearance, the warrant also says that no sheets or bed covers could be found for his bed. And exactly how? Those are the big questions now'. "We'll lay her to rest and then, then we go after the consequences that need to be met", her mother, Lori Verk, said.

Verk's father, Glenn, told Fox News in October that Zuzu's boyfriend was not cooperating with the investigation and asked him to tell police what he knew.

"'Knowing what we knew about the case, which we can't reveal, when I walked up there, I just knew, ' Dodson said. 'I had to call the chief and said, 'I think we got her here".

Monday's disclosures shattered the fondest hopes and confirmed the grimmest fears of the Verk family.
