Windows 10 Insider Preview: This Is a Big One

Windows 10 build 15014 introduces small refinements to the animation that users see when screen settings are adjusted, and Microsoft says that this is just the beginning of a longer series of improvements that should be released to users before the Creators Update launches in April. Since there will be no more security updates for it, the clients are advised to switch to a newer version of the system.

Windows 10 now comes with its very own blue light filter (only as part of the Windows Insider program), and the latest build brings some improvements that contribute to the overall experience with this new feature.

While these numbers differ based on collection methods, one tracks a sampling of websites and the other uses telemetry collected by Microsoft from deployed/running OS's, the uptake of Windows 10 is not where Microsoft would like it to be at this point.

"That means, after March 26th, 2017, Windows 10, version 1507 will no longer be serviced as only the two most Current Branch for Business (CBB) versions are actively serviced", reads a post on the official Microsoft blog. First the so-called November Update, released in November 2015, and then the Anniversary Update, released in August 2016. There will always be a 60 day grace period for any release that falls out of CBB.

Microsoft is putting a lot of time and effort into educating users and organizations about Windows 10 but is it having an impact? The same thing will then happen with version 1511 as soon as a new version follows version 1607 in the CBB.

According to Mercer, Microsoft launched an updated 1607 version via Windows Update for Business (WUB) and Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) and MSDN Subscriptions on January 19. The same CBB-eligible build will hit the Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC) on January 26, allowing customers to download the disk images.

This new strategy remains in line with Microsoft's plan to offer Windows as a Software as a Service type of model.

As previously mentioned, the original Windows 10 version 1507 will continue to work even after March 26, but it will no longer receive any updates. This means that users now running that version will be able to keep using it, but it's highly recommended to move to a newer version.

If you think that 2020 is too early to end support for Windows 7, you are about to really be in for a big shock.

The latest Insider build for PCs and mobile devices fixes numerous issues that developers had identified in the last two preview versions, Windows and Devices Group software engineer Dona Sarkar wrote yesterday on the Windows 10 blog.
