The resemblance between the two Ford coupe is uncanny, except for the fact the one sports a collapsing roof.

Ford is making midcycle changes to the Mustang in an effort to stay on top of the pony auto sales race, even as demand for such vehicles wanes.

"The new Mustang is our best ever, based on more than 50 years as one of the iconic sports cars in America and now, the world", Joe Hinrichs, Ford's president of the Americas, said in a statement. New kit includes a 12-inch digital LCD instrument cluster display and Ford Sync Connect with FordPass, the latter allowing drivers to start, lock, unlock and locate their vehicle via their smartphone through an app. The 2018 convertible instead will be packed with the same 2 engine options as the hardtop.

In a surprise move, Ford Motor is debuting the 2018 Ford Mustang convertible just days after unveiling the redesigned 2018 Ford Mustang. Ford is also making a new 10-speed automatic transmission available.

The 2018 Ford Mustang Convertible will be packed with either a 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder or a 5-liter V-8 engine. At the back, there's a new tri-bar LED tail lamp design and new bumper, and though there's no photo of the rear, the topless Mustang should have the same exhaust tip confuguration as the hard top, with dual tips for the EcoBoost and quad tips for the GT as standard. This technology is available for both mustang variants. An optional 12-inch LCD unit can be viewed in 3 separate ways according to the 3 driving modes: normal, track, and sport. Lastly, a variable active exhaust keeps things quiet even at lower rpm.

The 2018 Ford Mustang and Mustang convertible will include all of Ford's latest technology.
