Fox News Names Tucker Carlson Their New 9 PM Host

Ms. Kelly was also among the women employed by Fox who alleged sexual harassment and intimidation by Roger Ailes, the network's co-founder and former chairman.

One thing that appears certain: She won't be required to host a prime-time show every weeknight at 9 - which was probably the thing about her Fox News job (which ends this Friday) that put a crimp in the quality time she could devote to her children every day.

Kelly announced her move earlier this week, recording a farewell message to her Fox viewers.

In the wake of Kelly's NBC announcement Tuesday (she'll join the network sometime later this year), industry pundits - on their favored venue of punditry, Twitter - instantly assumed that the 9 p.m. choice would be an indicator of how Fox would tilt politically.

FOLKENFLIK: Kelly later apologized for the tone of that exchange with liberal Fox News pundit Kirsten Powers.

The exact terms of her new contract are not yet known. With Kelly taking a break over the holidays, Fox used Sandra Smith, Shannon Bream, Martha MacCallum and Trish Regan as substitutes. The post-Ailes team of Jack Abernethy and Bill Shine stepped up and proved that not much can deter Fox News' loyal viewers. The offer came directly from Lachlan Murdoch, Executive Co-Chairman of News Corp and 21st Century Fox.

The Growth Predict For Teekay Tankers Ltd. (NYSE:TNK)
Trinity Industries, Inc. (NYSE:TRN) [ Trend Analysis ] tries to capture market sentiments, shares plummeted -1.07% to $27.76. Shares of Teekay Tankers Ltd. (NYSE:TNK) climbed +6.19% and ended at $2.40 greater than previous closing price of $2.26.

Yet it was comments by Fox News stalwarts Bill O'Reilly, Neil Cavuto and Sean Hannity criticizing Kelly for coming forward to support the allegations of sexual harassment leveled by former anchor Gretchen Carlson against longtime Fox Chairman Roger Ailes that prompted her exit, reported NY magazine's Gabriel Sherman. (And Fox may just plug Carlson into Kelly's time-slot as a fast, easy fix.) Furthermore, none of the candidates listed above seems likely to pull in ratings comparable to what Kelly gets.

Show on the rise: ESPN's "Monday Night Football", Monday, 8:15 p.m.

Kelly notified Fox of her decision to leave on Tuesday morning. It is a necessary sour note to coverage that otherwise ignores her racism, like most of the commentary on her move from Fox. So, I will miss them and this show and you. A lot of people are very unhappy about this, and you really should be.

But because she challenges her guests, Kelly's also been an extremely polarizing anchor.

She is indeed jumping ship and is headed to NBC. The first week of "Tucker Carlson Tonight" was the third highest-rated week of the year for Fox News during the 7 p.m. hour, behind only election week and the Republican National Convention coverage.

The unfolding Megyn Kelly episode and the example of the firms cited by Staley aren't the only evidence that paying attention to quality of life can be a highly successful recruiting strategy for those with shallower pockets.
