Father shoots himself after accidentally shooting son

Police said Mathew, a security employee with a private firm, shot himself on Sunday morning at Ayyampuzha near Angamaly in Ernakulam district. His 20-year old son, identified as Manu Mathew, was watching television in the hall just outside. Mathew and Manu were sitting face to face. The neighbors shifted him to the hospital and his injury was later declared not serious. According to police, the condition of Manu is stable as he had suffered only a minor injury.

His son was injured on the head. Feeling extremely sorrowful, Martin put the nozzle of the double-barrel gun into his mouth and fired the shot to kill himself.

Mathew was a security guard at the office of a financial institution in Aluva and had license to carry gun. Pellets from the shot bored holes in the wall of the house. "Manu was working in a shop after completing his degree and Mathew's Martin's daughter is studying for plus two". Mathew worked as a guard for daily wages and his wife is also a daily wage earner. The incident happened soon after Rosely, Mathew's wife, reached home after attending the Sunday mass at a nearby church.
