A teenage thief throttled and robbed a 12-year-old girl of her cash and groceries during a violent exchange in Brooklyn, officials said Friday.

According to the NYPD, a teenager approached the girl from behind Monday evening in Coney Island and grabbed her by the neck.

"I punched him in the stomach", Quintero told the Post.

The teen grabbed her by the neck, pulled her into a dark alley and punched her in the face - all for a plastic bag with cupcakes inside, and $3, Conybeare reported. "In the middle of the street he says, 'seriously are you cold?' and I just kept walking straight", she told CBS2's Brian Conybeare. The suspect took her groceries and few dollars, then ran, police said.

He was last seen wearing black clothing with a black-hooded sweatshirt and had a black-and-red backpack slung over his shoulders.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
