The childcare centre is privately owned and operated.

He said that as well as investigations by police and WorkSafe, the centre itself would also probably hold an investigation.

Early Childhood Council chief executive Peter Reynolds said its members were saddened at the death, and sent their love and support to the child's family and friends, and to those who worked at the centre.
