Six Democratic Presidential Electors Vow to Cast Ballots Against State's Popular Vote

Conway suggested Trump's new posture is aimed at Republicans in Congress who have relentlessly investigated the former secretary of state, including whether classified information passed through her private email server and how she acted in connection with the deadly raid on the USA compound in Benghazi, Libya, that killed four Americans.

Trump regularly - as recently as earlier Tuesday - insults the "failing New York Times" in tweets, but distanced himself from threats to toughen libel laws and engaged cheerfully with the paper. Clinton would need to win all three to flip the results of the Electoral College. If Trump wins, as appears likely, he would be the fifth person to become president after losing the popular vote. Former Green Party candidate Jill Stein is demanding a recount.

Some national news outlets, including the Associated Press, have not yet called the state for Trump because the margin over Democrat Hillary Clinton was so slim.

"South Carolinians as well as ALL Americans can count on the fact that all 9 electors from SC will do our sworn duty, honor our Oath, and cast all 9 votes for Donald J. Trump on December 19th", Smith wrote to AP. He said they are the two factors that most closely predicted voting in the 2016 presidential election. Moreover, the Constitution does not require electors to vote in favor of the victor of the electoral vote.

"I think there is some connectivity", Trump replied when asked whether he thinks human activity causes global warming. The latest numbers show Clinton with 64,223,958 votes, compared to President-Elect Donald Trump's 62,206,395 votes.

Trump said he has "an open mind" toward the worldwide treaty on fighting global warming, a pact he previously called outdated and unnecessary. On top of that, you can bet Trump would file legal action if electors voted their "conscience".

"I was very impressed by that answer", Trump said, adding that torture is "not going to make the kind of a difference that a lot of people are thinking".

Now, a group of voting rights activists is calling on Clinton to challenger election results in three states that decided the election.

"We vastly underfund the way in which we run our elections", Michael McDonald, a University of Florida associate professor and electoral system expert, told USA Today.

The last person to lose the popular vote but win the presidential election was Republican George W. Bush in 2000. She lost Wisconsin by 27,000 votes. Whatever the case, she can rest easy that plenty of people have her back and want to see her succeed, even if it gets a little bit messy.
