The woman accused of killing a Kansas woman and stealing her baby said in a jailhouse interview that the woman had agreed to give her the child but backed out of the deal at the last moment.

Sophia Gonzalez was kidnapped from her home in Kansas when she was five days old.

Sophia's mother was found shot to death.

A Texas woman reportedly faked her own pregnancy that when the time came she was expected to have her baby, she allegedly went to extreme measures in order to have an infant.

Sesmas, 34, remained jailed in Texas on Tuesday. Portillo and the girls ran outside and got in their van until police arrived. She said Abarca-Nogueda had reneged on an agreement to give her her newborn daughter, and that she threatened Abarca-Nogueda with a gun that accidentally discharged, killing her.

Sesmas, 34, eluded capture until authorities arrested her during a raid of a home in Dallas early Saturday.

According to initial reports, an Amber Alert was never released during the search for six-day-old Sophia Victoria Gonzalez Abarca because it wasn't until late Friday afternoon that the Wichita, Kansas, police department, along with the help of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, were finally able to name two potential suspects in the case.

Urbina said she didn't know if Sesmas has an attorney.

By Friday evening, authorities had identified Sesmas as a suspect, according to police. Sesmas' boyfriend, son, and niece were also in the apartment when police conducted their search around 4:30 Saturday morning.

"The child was found safe, but as a precaution was transported to Children's Medical Center", Jones said.

Authorities said they do not believe the others in the home knew about Sesmas' plan or played any part in it.

Ojile declined to cite a motive but said Sesmas had spent time in Wichita several months ago. Sesmas was booked into the Sedgwick County jail in July on suspicion of aggravated battery, aggravated kidnapping, and kidnapping.

Olije said that Sesmas had been faking a pregnancy for months before carrying out the murder and kidnapping.

Portillo told the station Sesmas brought a knife, a baseball bat and duct tape to the basement and told her to tape her children's hands.

After baby Sofia was reunited with her family, her uncle said, relatives were relieved but grieving a young mother's death.

A GoFundMe page set up to help raise funds for Abarca-Nogueda's funeral described her as a "vibrant, lovely woman" who was a loving mother, devoted girlfriend and caring sister, daughter, and aunt.
