"Allied" actor Brad Pitt is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for child abuse after his divorce from estranged wife Angeline Jolie, TMZ wrote Thursday.

Amara Suarez, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, said the agency could not confirm whether it was investigating Pitt or the well-being of the former couple's children.

According to reports in the U.S., the 52-year-old is now to be at the centre of a probe by LA County Department of Children and Family Services and has been questioned by investigators along with Jolie.

"We're also told the LAPD has the case ... which is routine when anyone reports child abuse".

The report came days after 41-year-old Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt, 52, citing irreconcilable differences and seeking custody of their kids.

The alleged confrontation happened a day before Jolie and Pitt separated, according to a date provided by Jolie in a divorce filing on Monday.

The FBI confirmed that they are evaluating the child abuse allegations levied against actor Brad Pitt, Thursday.

Reports claim both he and Angelina have been interviewed, and that he didn't go back to the family house with kids Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and twins Knox and Vivienne, eight, and his now-estranged wife.

The source said Pitt has refrained from directing any "negativity" in order to resolve the divorce as quickly as possible for the sake of their children.

Woof. We can't even imagine going through the VERY public breakup these A-listers are now experiencing, but at the end of the day, we hope these allegations are false and all of the kids are okay!

On Thursday (September 22), it was reported that Pitt was under investigation by the LAPD for allegedly being verbally and physically abusive to his children. There, witnesses say Pitt was out of control and tried leaving in a fuel truck.

"We have no criminal investigation that we are actively pursuing", Sgt. Barry Montgomery told THR. The Associated Press reported Jolie's attorney, Robert Offer, said Jolie filed for dissolution of the marriage, with a decision made "for the health of the family". Jolie and Pitt were legally married August 14, 2014, after a two-year engagement.
